GARDNER MOUNTAIN – South Tahoe Neighborhood

~ written by 2014 Communications & Public Relations Chair, Shannon Witt

As you’re traveling east on Hwy 89 towards Camp Richardson, you’ll notice a neighborhood tucked back into the mountain side – this is known as Gardner Mountain.  Starting from Lake Tahoe Blvd at the intersection of Hwy 50, this neighborhood encompasses the left side of Hwy 89, all the way down to the condominium development called St Francis of the Woods.  There is a mixture of classic Tahoe cabins, new contemporary builds and ranchers spread throughout.  One will get the feel of openness and privacy due to the larger parcel sizes, ranging from 5000 to 10,000 square feet, some with a depth of 200 feet.  There is a mixture of local and second home owners in this neighborhood, as well as vacation and long term rentals.

The location of Gardner Mountain is something everyone loves – it’s within minutes to bike trails which lead to all of the public beaches (Pope, Kiva & Baldwin) and Camp Richardson.  South Tahoe High School is located at the west end of the neighborhood and you’re only minutes from the shopping area known as the “Y” which includes Raleys, TJMaxx, numerous restaurants, coffee shops and other businesses.  There is hiking/biking trail access to Fallen Leaf Lake and Tahoe Mountain via the back end of the neighborhood.  Even though Gardner Mountain is located on the west end of South Lake Tahoe, you get the feel of being in the middle of all the action.
