When buying or selling a home, one of the most important decisions a consumer can make is incorporating the expertise of a knowledgeable REALTOR®. Choosing to work with a REALTOR® who also knows the “ins and outs” of an area, such as the nuances involving local area government agencies, only enhances that decision.
With the intent of providing a higher level of service to South Lake Tahoe home buyers and sellers, STAR created the South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® Area Specialist Certification program for its members. To achieve the certification, a licensed REALTOR® must demonstrate sufficient knowledge regarding the following local agencies and industries:
- T.R.P.A
- US Forest Service Cabins
- Building Department
- California Tahoe Conservancy
- Vacation Rentals
- South Tahoe Refuse
- South Tahoe Public Utility District
- Fire District
- Homeowner Insurance
This is considered the South Tahoe Association REALTORS®’ most valued education program each year. Speakers from the agencies listed above present information and provide updates they feel important for REALTORS® to be knowledgeable about to best represent their clients in South Lake Tahoe. After each presentation, a test is given. To qualify for the certificate, which has been approved by the California Association of REALTORS®, one must pass with at least an 80% accuracy rate. The Certificate is then valid for two years.

The South Tahoe Association of Realtors Area Specialist Certification Course is only a week away! This certification course provides REALTORS® with information and updates from various agencies in Tahoe. The following agencies will provide information for this course:
- T.R.P.A
- US Forest Service (USFS)
- Cabins
- Building Department
- CA Conservancy
- Vacation Rentals
- Fire Departments
- South Tahoe Refuse (STR)
- South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD)
Upon passing the course, the California Association of REALTORS® will allow you add this certification to your C.A.R. member profile. This can be a wonderful marketing tool that demonstrates the value of working with a REALTOR® that is familiar with the area.

Cost: FREE – for REALTORS® to attend for the information only
$35 – for STAR members seeking certification
$55 – for REALTOR® members of associations of REALTORS® around the lake seeking certification (Tahoe Sierra Board of REALTORS®, Incline Village Board of REALTORS®, Sierra Nevada Association of REALTORS®)
$350 – for non members (including MLS only subscribers)
