2nd Annual Wish Tree Project & Food Drive a Success!

Community Comes Together Again to make the Holidays Special for children of the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe
Jana Nelson, 2019 Communications & Public Relations Chair

With the holiday season just around the corner and the children starting their winter break, the South Lake Tahoe Association of REALTORS® (“STAR”) would like to thank everyone who participated in and supported the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe’s 2nd Annual Wish Tree program this holiday season.  It was a huge success, with a collection of donations from Realtors®, Affiliates and community members at large.

Holiday “Wish Tree” gift tags were crafted from a list provided by the Boys & Girls Club – each with the name of a child, their age, and a specific present they were wishing for.  These kids and their families may not have otherwise been able to afford to have the holiday they were dreaming of, and together we worked to help make these children’s wishes come true.

“Every child on our Wish Tree had amazing asks this year!  Wishes ranged from hair ties and mini backpacks to hot wheels,” reported Kili Ongoy.  “This event is one of the most fun projects that we do for the community.  It’s getting so popular that we are looking at ways to continuously expand it!”

Fifty children received 2 gifts each.  100 presents were wrapped and gifted to the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 18, 2019.  Other unwrapped toys and art supplies were also donated to the Boys and Girls Club for their “Star Store” earlier during the year.  The Star Store incentives children to earn “stars” with good behavior and attendance that they can exchange later for items from the club’s “store”.  The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe’s Mission Statement is to empower all young people to reach their full potential.  The South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® gratefully thanks all the volunteers who helped make the holidays brighter this season for these children and their families!

The South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® is an organization of REALTORS® and members of an affiliated business community who live, work and play in Tahoe.  Part of STAR’s mission is to contribute to the community’s well-being, and we are grateful to all who helped us do that with the Boys & Girls Club Wish Tree this year!

Community Year End Food Drive Organized by the South Lake Tahoe Association of REALTORS®

Throughout the 2019 holiday season, REALTORS® and members of the community dropped off non-perishable food items to be donated to Christmas Cheer All Year and the Bread and Broth Food Pantry.  As a result, multiple bags and boxes of food were delivered to these vital organizations that support our community.

The need doesn’t end when the holidays are over, and both Christmas Cheer and Bread and Broth accept donations year-round.  For more information about specific needs and best days and times to drop-off dates and times, please visit:
