Commemorative Bridge Build in Angora Fire Area
written by Shannon Witt, 2014-2015 P.R. & Communications Chair

The South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® (STAR) completed a bridge across Angora Creek in
collaboration with the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit of the United States Forest Service. The
bridge services a trail which is located within a quarter mile of the Mule Deer access road. The bridge
and trail is utilized and enjoyed by members of the public and local residents for hiking or mountain
bike riding.

The U.S. Forest Service proposed the project in the fall of 2013. They sought funds and volunteers
from the private sector to assist them with completing it. The South Tahoe Association of
REALTORS® had money remaining in its Disaster Relief Fund, created specifically to aid REALTORS®
and Affiliate members who lost their homes in the Angora Fire during the summer of 2007. STAR
accepted the project for the purpose of making a contribution to the area as a commemoration to all
local residents who were victims of the Angora Fire. With a contribution of approximately $4,600, the
US Forest Service was able to purchase the needed materials for the bridge. Volunteers from the
South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® also assisted with the construction.

While the project was proposed for October 2013, work was delayed due to the Government Shut
Down at that time. The commemorative plaque was recently installed.
